Department Description

The Finance Department of the University encompasses the Controller's Office and the Office of Budget, Treasury and Research Administration. These offices are dedicated to ensuring the integrity of data submitted, recorded and reported and to providing the highest level of financial services in support of the University's mission in Biomedical Research.

Detailed Description

The Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Finance Office in a broad range of activities. Responsibilities include preparing monthly bank reconciliations for multiple bank accounts and funds, clearing all items promptly, submitting them to the Assistant Controller for review, depositing checks for the tenant lease security account, processing tenant withdrawal requests, and recording tenant lease deposits and withdrawals in Oracle system. The Accountant will provide back up responsibilities for all bank deposits, including obtaining all checks, photocopying all backups, obtaining appropriate Oracle coding, and data inputting the receipts into the Oracle Accounts Receivable system. Will perform account analysis and journal entry preparation of RU Press financial activity, including preparing the year-end inventory for subscriptions and book orders, set up new customers in the accounts receivable system for all programs, and assist with reconciling all Account Receivable clearing accounts ensuring proper charges are made to customers while ensuring appropriate revenue recognition for all Departments. Will liaison between Finance and Human Resources over Faculty Club membership/billing matters and monitor annual Faculty Club dues and related billed receivables. Additional responsibilities include processing returned deposited checks, entering information in returned check log excel file, and investigating the purpose of returned checks. Will assist in the quarterly equipment tagging and posting into Oracle Fixed Assets. Per the direction of the Assistant Controller, laboratory visits will be conducted, and new equipment purchases will be given an inventory tag. Will assist the Associate Controller with preparing the University's 1099 MISC and 1099R forms, including related IRS filing. The Accountant will prepare monthly shop and custodial charges journal entries into the Oracle system and monthly process coding transfers requests from laboratories/departments. Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required, and a minimum of three years of accounting or related experience required. Must have strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills and be hands-on, self-starting, disciplined, and detail orientated with the ability to work independently. Must have a strong understanding of proper accounting treatment for accounts receivable transactions and other activities. Experience with written and verbal internal and external customer communications and experience with journal entries and general ledger reconciliation required. Must have a high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
