Laboratory / Department Research Support
Research Support is responsible for administrative oversight of the University's materials management, environmental health and safety, and ten scientific core facilities. Research Support plays a lead role in University wide emergency preparedness, core facility initiatives and opportunities, and campus sustainability measures. Research Support also plays lead and key support roles in a number of scientific compliance areas including work with human stem cells, recombinant DNA, and hazardous laboratory materials.
The Administrative Manager will work very closely with the Associate Vice President (AVP) in the two-person Office of Research Support, members of other support departments, and researchers. Responsibilities include providing administrative support, managing schedules, handling departmental accounting and accounting/procurement support for Research Support and Resource Centers, and monthly Research Support credit card reconciliation. Will be the IT liaison for the Office of Research Support, including overseeing the development and updates to the University's websites for resource centers, Lab Safety and Environmental Health, disaster planning, and the Tri-SCI internal pages. Will provide staffing support for the Resource Center Scientific Advisory Committees, University Safety Committee, Laboratory Safety Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, the Tri-SCI Administrators Group, the Tri-SCI ESCRO, and the Sustainability Committee. Will serve as secretary for the University Safety Committee, the Tri-SCI Administrators Group, and the Tri-SCI ESCRO (rotating position), as well as Scribe for the Emergency Planning and Response Committee. Will manage the University's Public Access Defibrillator Program, including coordination of CP/AED training, and will enter and manage Tri-SCI ESCRO records, leading and overseeing annual reviews and updating disaster plans. Management and troubleshooting of the University's Send Word Now database. Lead liaison with Send Word Now account representative. Will be responsible for coordinating the annual Resource Center Presentation Series and other presentations, processing employees' Section E form in relation to University Export Control policies, managing the AVP's desk in their absence, as well as managing, creating, and updating department SOPs as needed in the Research Support Binder. Will be involved in special projects with an emphasis on project and personnel coordination related to scientific resource center operations and outreach, the University's safety program, and regulatory and compliance issues.
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of relevant work experience required; experience in an academic or research institution preferred. Must have strong interpersonal skills, initiative, attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work autonomously. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Computer proficiency with MS Office Suite software, PC platform, email software, and internet browsers and search engines necessary. Familiarity with Oracle systems and Outlook Calendar is a plus. Ability to develop competency in custom software used by Lab Safety and Environmental Health and the resource centers. Ability and willingness to learn custom software that supports research support programs necessary. The ability to take initiative, be self-motivated, and be able to work autonomously are a must.
