Laboratory / Department Genetically Encoded Small Molecules

Department Description

Researchers in the Laboratory of Genetically Encoded Small Molecules are working on projects related to the human microbiome, bacterial small molecules and host microbial interactions. The lab's research is focused on identifying bacterial genes, pathways and molecules that influence host-cellular functions and developing these host-microbial interactions into novel treatments for human disease. To this end we focus on three major areas of research: 1) high throughput screening of bacterial metabolites and genes to identify effector functions, 2) mouse models of inflammatory and metabolic diseases and 3) in vivo validation of bacterial metabolites and genes in human cohorts.

Detailed Description

The Bioinformatics Specialist will assist with research focusing on the analysis of genes involved in the biosynthesis of bacterial metabolites. Will be responsible for analyzing large Next-Generation sequencing data sets and presenting bioinformatics issues and solutions to audiences with varying levels of experience.

Job Requirements

Ph.D. required. Must have experience analyzing large Next-Generation sequencing data sets and be well versed in gene annotation software, and graphics software for genomics. Programming skills and an in-depth knowledge of the software available for analyzing large sequencing data sets required. The ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with lab members is necessary.
