Laboratory / Department Comparative Bioscience Center
The Comparative Bioscience Center provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
The Supervisor will manage work assignments of 1-2 Group Leaders and various Animal Technicians. Responsibilities include monitoring work performance, completing annual performance evaluations, writing SOPs, handling scheduling and timesheets, and ensuring the smooth daily functioning of the workplace.
Associates degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Must be certified at the AALAS Laboratory Animal Technician level and have a minimum of five years of experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and knowledge and experience with all state and federal rules governing animal research necessary. Must have the ability to recognize common animal laboratory illnesses and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for proper animal care. Knowledge of various biohazardous agents and how to minimize the risk of exposure required.
Must be able to tolerate a significant amount of standing, bending, and walking. Must not be allergic to animals, latex, waste products, and bedding. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
