Department Description
Our Laboratory uses high throughput sequencing and other techniques to investigate the proteins that regulate RNA and thereby affect gene expression. Our interest in this system originated from a study of naturally occurring tumor immunity associated with a group of rare brain disorders, and has since expanded to neuron-specific RNA-binding proteins in the mammalian brain, and more generally to functional genomics and human disease.
Detailed Description
The Clinical Technologist will play a key role in the CGL's efforts to scale up SARS-CoV-2 testing of home collected saliva specimens. Responsibilities include performing clinical assays as needed according to laboratory and assay-specific SOPs, and analyzing and reviewing clinical data for completeness, appropriate interpretation, and readiness for supervisor review and director sign-off. Will participate in daily laboratory operations, including but not limited to management of systems such as inventory, equipment, and environment. The Clinical Technologist will participate in the development, performance, and monitoring of Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Quality Improvement procedures for the laboratory. Additional responsibilities include ensuring the departmental biohazard, chemical, hazardous waste, infection control, and other safety policies are followed, maintaining appropriate training and continuing education requirements, reporting all complaints to appropriate personnel, and performing reagent control activities. Will participate in Proficiency Testing, method validation for new procedures and/or equipment as needed, and developing/writing new procedures as well as revising old ones. Will perform instrument management activities and participate in equipment procurement processes as needed. The Clinical Technologist will conduct analyses as necessary to highlight issues and resolve questions or problems in the laboratory and ensure that corrective actions are taken and documented as required. This is a Monday - Friday day shift position, reporting to the CGL supervisor.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in medical technology or the natural, physical, or biological sciences required. Must hold a NY State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or qualify for a NY State restricted license in molecular diagnostics. Must have previous experience performing high complexity testing. Working knowledge of related theory, principles, practices, applicable instrumentation, analytical methods, quality control, statistical analysis, and current government regulations is a plus.
