Department Description

The Rockefeller University Hospital is funded by the National Institutes of Health and has 20 patient beds for clinical research. The Hospital provides researchers with an opportunity to conduct clinical studies, and offers both normal volunteers and people with diseases under study the opportunity to stay in the hospital and help to contribute to important advances in science. The Hospital has an inpatient unit as well as an outpatient center where prospective patients are screened and many outpatient studies are conducted. The Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day with professional nurses and has nutritional research, social work, art and recreation departments, and a radiology suite as well as its own research pharmacy. Detailed Description

The Community Engagement Specialist will work with the co-directors to foster community-engaged translational research (CEnR). Responsibilities include engaging with faculty, trainees, and community members to teach CEnR, fostering partnerships, developing projects that pair scientist- and community- and patient-driven aims, developing relationships with community organizations, clinicians, advocacy groups, and patients. Will conduct formal and informal training with our research community to impart principles of community engagement/community-engaged research, assist in teaching bi-annual certificate courses in clinical translational research/community engagement lectures, develop relationships, and attend events to increase visibility and identify opportunities to share research interests bi-directionally. The Community Engagement Specialist will organize full spectrum town hall meetings and events to facilitate education and development of collaborations between communities and scientists. Will help design and conduct research protocols, track, evaluate, and report outcomes of engagement efforts, manage tracking databases, and facilitate disseminating outcomes in manuscripts, conferences, and return of results to stakeholders.


Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and educational emphasis in public health, psychology, epidemiology, or related field preferred. Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in community/patient engagement, partnership development, clinical/public health research/outreach, other non-profit or community experience, and a minimum of two years of administrative functions experience. Necessary data analysis skills are required. Must have strong oral and written communication skills, professional demeanor, telephone etiquette, attention to detail, and punctuality. Must be able to work independently, seek guidance as needed, have personal initiative, and strictly honor all aspects of patient confidentiality. Proficiency in MS Office Suite required. SPSS, SAS, REDCap each a plus.
