The Security Office is responsible for providing protection of all persons and property on campus. We verify the identification of guests, visitors, and all University members, patrol and inspect the various campus buildings, respond to all emergencies on campus, and conduct investigations and prepare appropriate reports.
The Fire Life Safety Director (FLSD) will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely records according to NYC Fire Code, liaising with FDNY, local, state, and Federal Agencies, communicating with the Security, Lab Safety, and Plant Operations Departments on-campus, and working closely with our contract fire alarm company on-site. Will conduct fire drills, evacuation drills, and other life safety exercises frequently, train Assistant Fire Life Safety Directors, Fire Wardens, and other staff according to NYC Fire Code, inspect sprinkler valve locks, fire pumps, and fire alarm panels, and oversee fire extinguisher inspections for serviceability and compliance. Will ensure emergency communication devices in elevators are operational, serve as a member of the RU Safety Committee, and prepare reports.
College coursework preferred. Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a FLSD or related, preferably in a campus setting, maintain a valid FDNY F-89 and FDNY F-1, F-3, F-4 and F-7 Certificates of Fitness. Must successfully pass the onsite FDNY exam. Must be able to function effectively under stress, identify critical issues and correct them accordingly. Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary. Must be able to operate a radio and telephone equipment, including fire command stations. Must be professional, organized and motivated.
Must be able to adjust working hours as needed. Ability to stand for long hours, and to walk entire campus, including climbing stairs.
