The Finance Department of the University encompasses the Controller's Office and the Office of Budget, Treasury and Research Administration. These offices are dedicated to ensuring the integrity of data submitted, recorded and reported and to providing the highest level of financial services in support of the University's mission in Biomedical Research.
The Grants Accountant will be responsible for fiscal matters related to assigned grants and contract awards. Will administer awards in accordance with sponsoring agency policies and regulations, and notify appropriate sponsors and/or Development with regards to outstanding Grant receivables/funds. Will monitor accounts receivable as well as laboratory grant activity on a daily basis, perform accounting for grants and contracts including private donor and government funded grants, reconcile monthly statements to budgets, prepare financial reports and invoices to awarding agencies, and provide support to Principal Investigators (PI) and administrators through meetings, as well as verbal and written communication. Will be responsible for notifying PIs or Lab Administrators of any spending rate irregularities, such as over- or under-spending, and will provide grant expenditure forecasting to PIs or Lab Administrators upon request. Will respond to Office of Sponsored Research's unobligated balance inquiries and obtain a spending plan from the lab administrator as needed, investigate and verify Faculty transactions upon request from the Payroll Department, analyze total laboratory financial capability (including university unrestricted funding) of all laboratories assigned, provide assistance to the Assistant Director of Budgeting and Office Administration in university effort reporting and during annual laboratory budgeting process, and serve as a back-up to the Grants Manager during absences.
Bachelor's degree required; educational emphasis in accounting or business preferred. Must have knowledge of accounting for grants and contracts and substantial experience in post-award grants administration with knowledge of grants accounting principles. Computer proficiency, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work with faculty and laboratory administrators on a professional level required. Must have excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
