Laboratory / Department Biology of Addictive Diseases
Our laboratory elucidates the biological basis of four addictive diseases: opiate addiction, cocaine addiction, nicotine addiction and alcoholism. Our related goals are to: 1) determine the biological correlates of addictive diseases and the existing or novel treatments thereof. and 2) expand information concerning the major medical complications of drug abuse, primarily hepatitis C and AIDS. Our basic laboratory and clinical studies focus on determining the role of the endogenous opioid system in addictive diseases and the roles of specific opioid peptides and receptors in the normal and abnormal physiology of the neuroendocrine, immune and gastrointestinal systems.
The Laboratory Administrator will play a leadership role in managing a large Laboratory. Responsibilities include managing the correspondence and schedule of the Head of Laboratory, representing the Laboratory in interactions with other University departments, government agencies, and private foundations, involvement in budgeting and financial management, preparation of power point presentations, and some personal assistance to the Head of Laboratory.
Bachelor's degree required. Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant administrative experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational and computer skills (including Power Point, Word, Outlook) are important. Experience in university or not-for-profit administration, interaction with federal agencies, and work with IRBs are helpful, but not required. Diplomacy, ability to prioritize, and ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.
