Plant Operations offers comprehensive services at The Rockefeller University including a full range of building trades services which are responsible for routine maintenance and minor/major space alterations, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, grounds maintenance, locksmith, custodial, moving and setup services.
The Manager of Custodial will be responsible for the day to day management of a large staff of Custodians and Group Leaders handling the cleanliness, sanitation and event management on an active and busy 14-acre campus. Will participate in weekly event planning meetings among several departments on campus and be expected to manage the associated event tasks in a timely and efficient manner. The Manager of Custodial will ensure that custodial services meets the needs of the department, the University, and established custodial guidelines by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special projects. The Manager of Custodial receives all complaints, and handles all hiring, performance reviews, and any disciplinary issues. Will handle the budget, contracts, and interactions with vendors and contracted workers as needed. Will also participate in the leadership team in Plant Operations, including handling emergency conditions or unique circumstances as the situation dictates.
Bachelor's degree, Trade School, or equivalent experience required. 10 years of experience in custodial services or related field, including five years of previous supervisory experience necessary. Must have outstanding management and organizational skills, independent judgment, strong oral and written communication skills, and stellar interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills necessary (Word, Excel, Outlook) necessary. General mechanical or technical aptitude and specific knowledge and experience in a skill, craft, or trade preferred. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Must be able to coordinate activities involving faculty, staff, students and/or the general public. Fluency in Spanish highly desired.
