Rockefeller University Natural Product Bioinformatics Specialist II in New York, New York

Job: IRC27622

Job Title Natural Product Bioinformatics Specialist II

Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Genetically Encoded Small Molecules

Department Description

Researchers in the Laboratory of Genetically Encoded Small Molecules are working on projects related to the human microbiome, bacterial small molecules and host microbial interactions. The lab's research is focused on identifying bacterial genes, pathways and molecules that influence host-cellular functions and developing these host-microbial interactions into novel treatments for human disease. To this end we focus on three major areas of research: 1) high throughput screening of bacterial metabolites and genes to identify effector functions, 2) mouse models of inflammatory and metabolic diseases and 3) in vivo validation of bacterial metabolites and genes in human cohorts.

Detailed Description

The Natural Product Bioinformatics Specialist will support natural product biosynthetic gene cluster-focused research using technical knowledge of software, software development, networking, and hardware in a complex computing environment. Will work collaboratively with the Primary Investigator to determine the most suitable computational methods to be used in the research. Responsibilities include independently performing procedures requiring application of professional judgment, interpreting experimental results and determining whether they are consistent with experimental goals, preparing research reports for presentations or publications, developing and executing complex computational analysis of sequenced biosynthetic gene clusters, upkeep and administration of complex databases, and maintaining resolution of hardware, software, and/or network problems in support of the lab.

Job Requirements

Ph.D. in science required; background in biosynthetic gene clusters and experience analyzing natural product biosynthetic gene clusters is preferred. Must have programming skills and in-depth knowledge of the software available for analyzing large sequencing data sets. Must have the ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with lab members.
