Job Title Research Assistant
Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Synthetic Embryology
The ultimate objective of the work in my laboratory is to understand the cellular and molecular basis of vertebrate embryonic induction, with a special emphasis on germ layer and organ formation. Toward this aim we perform comparative studies using both amphibian and mammalian model systems, including human embryonic stem cells.
The Research Assistant will work as part of a team engaged in a variety of projects related to human embryonic stem cell research. Working closely with postdoctoral researchers, responsibilities include culturing stem cells, employing molecular techniques (e.g., cloning), microscopy imaging and data analysis.
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biology, biophysics or biochemistry preferred. Must possess outstanding organizational skills and an ability to prioritize tasks and activities. Some programming experience is a plus. Must be highly focused and detail-oriented in order to carry out complex experiments. Must demonstrate accuracy in record keeping, the ability to organize, analyze and calculate data. Must have excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills, as well as interact effectively in a collaborative work environment. Must be amenable to changing work schedules that prioritize experiments and routinely go beyond the standard 9 to 5 workday, occasionally including weekend hours.
